Meet Chris McCray

Where is your hometown and did you grow up around farming?

I was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana and raised in Pensacola, Florida.  Though my immediate family is not involved in farming it certainly plays an important role with my extended family; I’m a nephew and cousin to the Silveus family and their love and interest in farming definitely influenced me.  Steve Silveus always said I could come up to Indiana and join the family business, which I did after moving back to Warsaw in 1999.

What are your clients asking you about today? 

Silveus is the industry leader in private product development. Our portfolio of non-reinsured supplemental products includes those designed to be written in conjunction with a Federal insurance plan, and a number of stand-alone products. My clients want to know about new insurance products that are relevant to their needs and about what I’m seeing with other growers in the Midwest, mid-south, delta, and other areas I cover.

What is your approach to customer service? 

I’ve learned through my time working for Silveus that excellent customer service is a priority. Customers should not have to ask for something if it’s being done for them. It’s important to meet and exceed expectations when it comes to customer service.

How long have you been working at Silveus and what do you like best about your job?

I’ve been here since the fall of 1999.  I love working with my customer base and understanding and helping with the risk management needs they have throughout the year.

What is one fun fact about yourself your co-workers don’t know?

I started playing golf a few years back and it’s become one of my favorite ways to unwind.
