Meet Lucas Whalen

Where is your hometown and did you grow up around farming?

I was born in Upstate New York and spent my high school years in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Dairy farming was a part of the community and church I grew up in. I spent time on a dairy farm helping out in middle school and loved every minute of it.

What are your clients asking you about today?

With rising input costs, clients don’t have a lot of money for “extras.” They are interested in educating themselves and making decisions that can help them minimize their risk. To that end, a lot of customers are interested in PriceFlex, a private insurance product offered through Silveus, that allows farmers the opportunity to lock in higher prices today for next year’s crop insurance. We’ve got great information about PriceFlex on our website, but nothing replaces a face-to-face conversation about our products.

What is your approach to customer service?

It’s simple, with all the crop insurance agents out there I want my clients to know that they’re important and that I’ll address their unique needs whether they farm 100 acres or 10,000.

How long have you been working at Silveus and what do you like best about your job?

I have been with Silveus for about two years. I enjoy having the ability to help the American farmer preserve traditions past down to them and educate a new generation of farmers.

What are you most excited about?

It’s always an exciting time when new products hit the market, whether private or subsidized; it’s important for me to offer industry knowledge to help customers understand their options as they navigate unpredictability within the industry.

What is one fun fact about yourself your co-workers don’t know?

After high school I lived in Florida for two years and received a degree in Golf Complex and Organizational Management. I learned that a golf course couldn’t replace farmland! So, I packed up and came to Indiana to finish my schooling and earned a degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
